What is Agroecology?
Agro
= agricultural
(Greek agrós ‘field, plot of land, countryside’)
Ecology
= the interrelationship of organisms and their environments
(German Ökologie, from öko- eco- + -logie -logy).
Agroecology encompasses the relationship between agricultural production and ecological processes. In short, it is an approach which prioritises growing in harmony with nature.
However you choose to grow we can suggest practices with an agroecology focus
to complement your approach
Agroecology:
- utilises ecosystem services which are the services that humans receive
from nature - integrates functional biodiversity into agroecosystems to improve resilience
- uses cost-effective inputs and seeks to reduce intervention and inputs
- stacked enterprises can provide additional financial benefits
- provides the capacity to share authentic stories to create connectivity between consumers and producers.
